Play Dough Baking Pretend

For this play experience I got out a bunch of baking supplies and a few containers of play dough and let the kids choose what they wanted to do. Above you can see: a mini cookie sheet, plastic knives and forks, a garlic press, cookie cutters, a rolling pin, toothpicks, play dough scissors, muffin tin liners, play cooking pans, a mini saute pan. Most of our baking toys like the rolling pin came from IKEA.

Here they are just getting started and figuring out what they want to try. My 3 yo is putting play dough pieces into that mini tart pan (it’s from the play section of IKEA).

I love that they got practice rolling dough flat – without the added mess of stickiness and flour that comes in baking.

I tasted the kids “cookies” so many times it was so fun. They would come running and say “Mom, I made this for you!

A quick note on this garlic press – it was such a hit! My 3 year old put play dough into it and squished it out over and over, and then kept asking for the rest of the day if she could play with it again. Above you see my 4 yo using it to create designs on his little man.

How do your kids like to play with play dough?
