Peanut Butter Apple Smiles

I saw this simple idea for an easy toddler recipe and snack/treat on pinterest and just had to give it a try! I am really into interactive snacks that give the kids a chance to experiment while they also are satisfied by a delicious and hopefully nutritious snack. For example these mini fruit kabobs were so fun!

YOU WILL NEED

Apple slices

Peanut butter

Mini marshmallows

Plastic knife/spreader

LET’S GET STARTED!

Put the apples slices and peanut butter in front of your child with a spreader or little plastic knife.

Tell your child to spread the peanut butter onto the apple slices. Maybe consider keeping the marshmallows out of reach at the beginning haha!

And this is my 2 year old’s result. Not really a smile, but a really terrific snack and activity! If you are working with a preschooler or older kids, instruct them to sandwich the spread peanut butter with another apple slice (creating the lips) and stick the little marshmallows into the peanut butter for the teeth.

When I made one myself it looked like this…

How fun would these be all piled up for a Halloween party or other event??

Until little miss 2 started deconstructing the smile for her own marshmallow-eating purposes.

Smile! And have fun eating, cooking, and experimenting with your own kids. Hope it’s a blast!
